Forever Packing: Europe Essentials

If you’re a frequent traveler like I am then you understand the delicate dance of packing for month long trips.

A few months back, I was standing between suitcases in our home in Newport RI trying to sort out my complicated packing life. I was about to jet off for almost 4 weeks of travel. First to Charleston, SC, then Innsbruck Austria, then London, and then the countryside outside Madrid. It was a combination of business, visiting family and friends, and vacation. Every year, I think I’ve mastered it–the art of packing that is. But then every time it’s me up against a long stretch of travel I’m once again left scratching my head.

I theoretically understand that the fewer suitcases I bring the better my travel experience will be, but tell that to my shoes. Luckily, my wardrobe is notoriously travel-friendly with lightweight fabrics and wrinkle free mesh pieces. I start by packing my most versatile pieces. The ones that I know will carry me from morning to night like my mesh outer layers or my Caterina basics. As I pack them in my bags, I take photos so I can remember exactly where they are when I’m frantically getting ready in Madrid or London.

Let’s take a look at everything that made my suitcase for those four lovely weeks away. My khaki outfit consisting of the Rhea Duster, Keaton Blouse, and Gabriele Pants. I wore these in a variety of different ways for plane rides, city explorations in Charleston, and my weekend in the Spanish Countryside. I also brought a second pair of Gabriele Pants in black which I frequently paired with the Keaton Blouse. The stretch knit fabric of those pants are something to dream of. They are wildly comfortable.

A new addition to my suitcase is the silk Ala Blouse in our Koi print. I find the vibrant colors and abstract print a perfect fit for Spain’s colorful atmosphere. While the same top in last year’s Narragansett Print makes for a London staple. I pair either of these tops with our Gabriele pants in Cocoa Faux Suede. (Yes, that’s a third pair of Gabriele pants. They are just that flattering and comfortable).

I always have one or two dresses in the mix. This time it was our Veronique Silk Dress in Koi which looks absolutely stunning in any setting, but I found myself reaching for it at night and while out at a hot new restaurant in the city. I also had a mix of our Rose Rouge and Noir pieces along with me so that I was never caught without something fabulous to wear on a night out.

I may still be indecisive when it comes to packing, but thanks to years of building up a colorful yet versatile wardrobe the packing does it self. A signature set, a few lightweight outer layers, and as many dresses as I can squeeze in and I’m ready to travel the world in style.
