Ala turned to Antigua to inspire The Tropics Collection. Specifically coral, in all its vibrancy, guided two of the prints in AvA’s newest offerings. As a longtime reef enthusiast, Ala felt drawn to coral’s rare form of beauty.

“I’m always struck by how much more colorful live coral are than what we usually find when we're swimming or snorkeling,” says Ala. “I’m inspired by the liveliness of coral and I wanted to bring it to life.”
The Blue Coral print, in breezy cotton voile, features gradient shades of blue in curving coral shapes layered atop classic white. Live Coral, in sheer mesh, offers a range of pastel Caribbean hues of lavender, blue, and pink layered atop lavender mesh.
The remaining AvA Tropics print reflects two versions of Mock Coffee, a tropical floral bloom related to the Frangipani flower found in Ala’s garden. Both prints showcase shades of cerulean, sky blue, and forest green; one sits atop classic white and the other, romantic violet.
New styles in the Tropics Collection include the Electra Sheer Mesh Topper in Live Coral, an evolution of our best-selling Jerry Sheer Mesh Topper that offers a sarong-style skirting and goes perfectly with a bathing suit or an AvA stretch knit pant. Cotton voile takes center stage with new silhouettes, like the Titania Cotton Kaftan, Demeter Cotton Tunic, and Phoebe Cotton Wrap Top, the last of which is a versatile shirt with a tie-front that pairs over a pant or dress, or with our matching Crawford Cotton Skirt for a head-to-toe look.
“It’s the idea of being able to take things and wear them in multiple ways,” says Ala. “I like combining our pieces and making something completely unique with them. I love the practicality of it - of being able to play with styles and combine them to form something completely your own.”
