“I was inspired by the corals around me,” says Ala in describing the journey of the new AvA Tropics Collection. “I’m always struck by how much more colorful they are than what we usually find when we're swimming or snorkeling. I’m struck by the liveliness of coral and I wanted to bring it to life.”
Behind the Collection:
the Tropics Collection
Inspired by the natural beauty to be found in the sea, Ala got to work sketching the designs of AvA’s latest collection - beachy, Caribbean-perfect prints in geometric shapes and pastel hues called Live Coral and Blue Coral, as well as Mock Coffee, a signature AvA floral print derived from the relative of the Frangipani flower that lines her garden in Antigua.
In terms of new styles, cotton voile takes center stage in the form of the Moroccan-style Titania Kaftan, the everyday Demeter Tunic, and the new Phoebe Wrap Top, a tie-front blouse that offers multiple ways to wear.
“Cotton voile is so easy to wear and so breezy,” says Ala. “Silk has its place, of course, but cotton just feels appropriate to this collection specifically."
