I love coming to New York City—especially in the fall, but also during the quieter stretches of summer. It gives me a chance to catch up on the things I’ve missed, whether it’s exhibitions, performances, or just the energy of the city itself. I usually come in for a few days at a time for work and always try to fit in a few experiences I don’t want to miss.
Here are a few of the things I’ve really enjoyed lately:
The Buena Vista Social Club on Broadway
An absolute joy. The music is so beautiful and danceable—it’s been playing around my house ever since I got back, and I’ll likely keep it going until everyone starts covering their ears. It’s full of life, with a storyline that’s both touching and engaging. Pure magic.
The Sargent Exhibition at The Met
On view through August 3, this exhibit gave me a whole new appreciation for John Singer Sargent. I’ve always admired his portraiture, but seeing his landscapes up close—along with the incredible detail and texture in his work—was truly inspiring. A must-see if you’re in the city.
Mission: Impossible at The Museum of the Moving Image
I saw the latest installment on opening night at this Queens gem, and it might be my favorite one yet. But the real surprise was the museum itself—a stunning theater with a state-of-the-art Dolby sound system, plus a fantastic exhibit of film costumes and props. I’ll definitely be watching their calendar for future events.
